Detroit Childhood

20” x 28”

oil on canvas

I am contrasting the innocence of children to the  world around them.  There is  a sort of comfort to the homes behind them, yet a vulnerability and desolation.  I am basing this on photos I took in Detroit, but really myself grew up watching a  steel mill across the wide St. Mary’s river in Canada.
